Frequently asked questions

Can I use the app without allowing location access?

Yes. Register a location from the location menu on the Home screen and you can use every feature.

What are the Walk Index and heatstroke risk based on?

"Settings > How the index works" in the app lists the thresholds and the sources (the Ministry of the Environment's heat index guidance, published material reviewed by veterinarians, and more).

Is the pavement temperature an actual measurement?

No. It's an estimated guide based on the height of the sun and the cloud cover. Before you head out, use it together with the 5-second check: place your hand on the ground for five seconds.

Where is my data stored?

Your dogs' profiles and the locations you register are stored only on your device. See the privacy policy for details.

Can I keep using the app for free?

Yes. The core features — the Walk Index, heatstroke and pavement temperature ratings, rain radar (up to an hour ahead), the weekly forecast, and more — are free. The care calendar is free too for plans such as vaccinations and flea and tick prevention (adding your own plans, such as grooming or vet visits, and the fourth and subsequent events in a month are Premium features). Osanpo Biyori Premium is an optional plan that adds to all of this.

How much is Osanpo Biyori Premium?

350 yen per month (tax included). There is no free trial period. The payment terms are set out in the Japanese Act on Specified Commercial Transactions notice.

Where do I cancel?

You can cancel at any time. On iOS, use "Manage subscription" in the app's Settings tab (this opens Apple's screen; you can also reach it from "Account > Subscriptions" in the App Store app). On Android, use "Manage subscription" in the app's Settings tab (this opens Google Play's screen; you can also reach it from "Payments and subscriptions > Subscriptions" in the Google Play app). Cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends and you will not be billed again. After cancelling, you can keep using the Premium features until the end of the period you have paid for.

If I change devices or reinstall the app, do I have to subscribe again?

No. As long as you are signed in with the same account you purchased with (Apple Account on iOS, Google account on Android), you can restore it from "Restore purchases" (iOS) or "Check purchase status" (Android) on the Premium screen. You will never be charged twice.

Is Osanpo Biyori Premium available on Android too?

Yes. You can subscribe on either iOS or Android. The core features are free on both.

Why don't I see the rain radar, real-time alerts, or weather warnings?

The rain radar and real-time alerts use data from the Japan Meteorological Agency, so they are available only for locations in Japan. Weather warnings and advisories are published by the agency in Japanese only, so the app shows them only when it is used in Japanese.
